Liberty Galați Returns to Investors’ Radar: Auction Relaunched at a Starting Value of EUR 463 Million

Bucharest, May 18, 2026 – The Galați Court has approved the amended asset sale plan for Liberty Galați, paving the way for the relaunch of the auction process for one of Romania’s most important industrial assets.

The auction is scheduled for June 19, 2026 and includes both the steel plant owned by Liberty Galați and the pipe mill owned by Liberty Tubular Products Galați. The starting price has been set at EUR 444,026,436 for Liberty Galați and EUR 18,985,681 for Liberty Tubular Products Galați.

The relaunch of the auction reaffirms Liberty Galați’s position as a strategic industrial asset with strong appeal for investors. This new stage of the process follows a technical update of the market valuation and a redefinition of the asset perimeter included in the sale procedure.

During the previous sale process, five strategic investors from Europe and Asia purchased the information memorandum, while several of them conducted site visits and engaged in in-depth discussions regarding the investment opportunity.

"The level of interest demonstrated so far confirms that the Galați steel plant remains one of the most significant industrial assets in the region, with strategic relevance for the European steel market. Investors assessed the plant’s potential based on its industrial capabilities, logistics infrastructure, access to the Danube River and the Black Sea, as well as the development opportunities arising in a European context where local production and industrial security are becoming increasingly important priorities. Liberty Galați continues to possess the competitive advantages required to attract a strategic investor and to regain its role as a major economic engine for the region," said Paul-Dieter Cîrlănaru, CEO of CITR.

The asset sale process is being conducted in full transparency and in strict compliance with the provisions approved by the court. The assets of Liberty Galați and Liberty Tubular Products cannot be sold below the starting price established under the restructuring plans.

At the same time, the asset valuation serves as a technical benchmark within the sale process, while the final transaction price will ultimately be determined by investor interest and competition among the participants in the auction.

Ahead of the March 12, 2026 auction, the Euro Insol–CITR consortium carried out an extensive international marketing campaign, which included direct outreach to strategic investors, specialized investment funds, and relevant steel industry companies across Europe, Asia, and the Americas.

In the coming period, the restructuring administrators will continue the international promotion of the assets and maintain discussions with strategic investors, specialized investment funds, and companies operating in the steel industry, with the objective of identifying a partner capable of supporting the continuation and further development of industrial operations in Galați.
